Emmy awards show rich in history

emmysBy Staff Writer: Rachel Brauer

The 65 annual Emmy Awards aired on Sunday, Sept. 22. With How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris hosting the formal event. Previous hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon also made an appearance on stage.

According to the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences website, states that the Academy Awards date back to the earliest days in television history. Created by Syd Cassyd, it had been his dream for the members of the organization to debate ideas and worries concerning T.V. shows from various networks. Cassyd had no intentions of giving awards, glitz, and glamour, but eventually accepted the annual celebration of television’s finest achievements.

Receiving an Emmy has become an honor desired by anyone in the industry; a talisman for a year of hard-work and dedication. According to the Emmy website, deciding the design of the Emmy was a very precise procedure, in which 47 different proposals were viewed until the final selection of the perfect statue. The winner was Louis McManus, who had devised the award using his wife as the muse.  Just looking at the statue, all you would see is a woman with wings holding an atom. Most don’t know the true representation of the design, which is the objective of aiding the science and arts of television.

Just a few of the winners of the 2013 Emmy Awards were:
