“The Knockout Game”: punching the trust right out of humanity

Recently, a 16-year-old girl in London was knocked out cold by a complete stranger in broad daylight. A man died after being punched at a bus stop in Manchester, England. A 12-year-old boy and a 78-year-old woman were both punched in the head in separate attacks in Brooklyn, New York.

Some law enforcement officials believe that these attacks might be all linked to being a part of a disturbing trend called “The Knockout Game”. This “game” consists of perpetrators attacking random and innocent victims, while trying to knock them out in one punch.

At least two deaths have occurred from similar attacks this year. A man had a seizure and died after getting attacked by a group of teenagers in New Jersey.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. Groups of regular people are walking past you, clenching their fists and ready to pummel you for no reason at all. They aren’t even robbing the victims, not saying that they should be, but their main goal is to just hit you as hard as they possibly can. And betting on who can punch the hardest? It is disgusting to me.

Times like these really make you stop and question humanity. Who on earth would have a thought about punching an innocent person? And the ages range from 12 all the way up to 80 years old! All this for the sick enjoyment of the “players”. People have lost their lives, gone through surgeries, and still have horrible flashbacks as a result to these attacks.

In Pittsburgh, a 15-year-old and his friends were caught on tape laughing at a 51-year-old English teacher named James Addelspurger after being punched. They smashed his face on the concrete and left him lying on the sidewalk.

It really makes you wonder what goes on in some people’s heads. You look at their outside appearance and they look completely ‘normal’, like they might even be friendly, but then things like this happen in the world. It’s hard to fully trust some people. Maybe not a close friend would do this to you, but you could be walking down the road and something like this could easily occur. In my opinion, you should never be walking alone. This is happening to men and woman of all ages. You could easily be targeted if you’re walking in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I guess we all need more cautious. It’s a good idea to walk with someone and to be aware of your surroundings. Don’t walk at night or where there aren’t a lot of people around. Take care and protect yourself. You never know what could happen.
