It has always been a struggle at Howell High School to get students to attend the formal affair of Winterfest. Winterfest is just like our famous Homecoming dance, but instead of being held in the field house, it is held in the commons area. The Winterfest dance is put on by the junior student council members. The money raised from the dance goes towards the upcoming classes’ Prom and other social activities they choose to participate in during their senior year.

Every school has its rivalries that have been around for generations. Howell’s rival for some time has generally been considered the Brighton Bulldogs. However, Howell has recently developed a rivalry with a neighboring school, Grand Blanc, in only a few short years. Both schools are extremely competitive in all sports, including basketball. On Friday, Feb. 13, Howell and Grand Blanc will go head to head for Howell’s Winterfest basketball game; both teams are tied for first in the division along with Hartland and Pinckney.

Baldness is generally considered a bad thing; people purchase toupees and wigs, buy into “miracle” hair growth formulas, and affect comb-overs, all in order to hide their barren craniums. However, on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, four Howell High School students and three Howell Schools board members will voluntarily lose their locks in the name of childhood cancer research.

Slip on your dancing shoes, everybody, because Winterfest is just around the corner! The theme for this year is Mardi Gras. Right after the boys’ basketball game on Friday the 13th, the dance will take place in the commons. It goes from 8:00-11:30 that evening.
