NFL playoffs down to four teams

By Staff Writer: James Edwards

There are four teams still alive in the NFL playoffs battling for the status of Super Bowl champion. At the beginning of the season, most fans predicted that Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos were going to be in the title hunt, and that Tom Brady was going to lead his Patriots to the playoffs – that was a given. The two teams I haven’t mentioned yet are the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers. They are the surprise teams who really weren’t mentioned in the pre-season Super Bowl discussions, but one of them will be playing in the big game on February 2. On Sunday, Jan. 19, the Broncos will play against the Patriots and Seattle will be pitted against San Francisco.

We will start off with the early game of the afternoon (game will be played at 3 p.m.), with New England and Denver playing at Mile High Stadium in Denver. This game is sure to be a classic because of the two classic quarterbacks being showcased in the game, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. This will almost be a mini-Super Bowl game in itself. It matches up the two greatest players of my generation against each other in a seemingly winner-take-all title match for the AFC championship. You will see the two titans of the NFL from the last decade battle when you tune in to watch this game.

The game that will be played at 6:30 p.m. will be the West Coast rivalry between San Francisco’s high powered offense and Seattle’s stingy defense. The 49ers are riding in on an eight-game winning streak and are looking to continue that streak into the Super Bowl. The only problem for them is the fact that they will be playing in Seattle, home of the toughest place to play in the NFL, also home to Russell Wilson, one of the more dynamic quarterbacks in the league. Colin Kaepernick, the QB on San Francisco’s side, isn’t too shabby himself, with Super Bowl experience already under his belt. This game features the two young, fresh, up and coming faces of football. This is one game sports fans will not want to miss.

When we finally get to the day of the Super Bowl, the casual fans will tune in for the commercials, but those fans out there, that are like myself, will be ready to see one of the best Super Bowls of all time. We will see young vs. old, teacher vs. student in terms of the differences in the age of the quarterbacks for each team. I didn’t mention yet that this will be played outside in frigid temperatures, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The next few weeks are sure to be a treat for NFL fans across the country.

I will just dish out my predictions for each game and for the big game, as if any of you care anyways. I am taking Seattle and their crowd over the 49ers. I am going to go with Tom Brady and the Patriots over Denver, making it a New England and San Francisco Super Bowl. If this happens to be the case, in terms of location, New England should possess a home field advantage and I am taking the Patriots over the 49ers in the Super Bowl. There you have it – the rest of your NFL season and even my useless predictions.
