This year's applications for the National Honor Society (NHS) are due by Friday, March 27. Applications can be picked up in the main office any day. Applications should be turned in to to the main office when completed. An essay that displays all of your best qualities is also due with your applications on the 27th. In order to apply to become a part of NHS, students must have and maintain above a 3.5 GPA.

On Thursday, February 26th 2015 at 2|42 Community Church in the Commons from 6:30-8:30 p.m. there will be 17 church connected colleges from Michigan. The schools will each have representatives that can give students and parents more information about their school, their majors etc. There will also be time to hear what defines a church based college, to hear from some current students at the colleges, and some information on financial aid. Also there will be a drawing for multiple $1,000 scholarships.

Race for senior survivor starts Wednesday

It’s that time of the year again. The race for Senior Survivor 2015 officially begins Wednesday, February 25th! Applications will be available in P-7 and the main office. All funds raised will go to Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan. Last year, they raised $27,039.20 for The Rainbow Connection. On Monday, February 23rd the National Honor Society will be hosting Howell High School’s second annual blood drive. Staff and students can stop by the lobby outside of the auditorium anytime during the day to make their donation. NHS members Janice Kwan and Megan Bigliardi are running the blood drive this year and encourage students and staff members to donate. “We have a goal of collecting 51 units of blood.” Kwan says. Students must be at least 16 to donate with a permission slip and 17 without one. Permission slips can be found on the table in the commons during all lunches, where students can sign up for a timeslot to make their donation.

This morning, as weary Highlanders filed into the school, they were greeted by a positive surprise. On every individual locker, a sticky note had been placed with a positive message on it. Each sticky note seemed to have a unique message, design or handwriting which made the notes a personal and pleasant surprise. Students rushed to their lockers to see what message they had gotten.

Due to an upcoming vacancy for the role as the Howell mascot, I'm reaching out and looking for a high-spirited and fun male or female person looking for a life experience that I found incredible. Requirements are very simple, you must be able to fit the entire suit. Also, you must have a flexible schedule to attend as many home games as possible for multiple sports that include football, basketball, and hockey.

Two weeks ago, Howell students Travis Waker, Matt Henton, Robert Kempasty, and Jaimie Wilson entered the semi finals for a nationwide entrepreneurship contest. The event is sponsored by Microsoft and this year over 750 applications were sent in. The goal was to inspire creativity and innovation in the highschoolers.

Baldness is generally considered a bad thing; people purchase toupees and wigs, buy into “miracle” hair growth formulas, and affect comb-overs, all in order to hide their barren craniums. However, on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, four Howell High School students and three Howell Schools board members will voluntarily lose their locks in the name of childhood cancer research.
